INTRODUCTION Music is culture. That is why talking about it, using
it, performing it, transforming it and teaching it involves sending
out messages to society: messages that carry, sometimes without our
being aware of it, a powerful ideological charge. From the old cliché
of “universal language” to the superficial association between
primitive forms and more distant cultures, as well as the tendency to
hail as “revolutionary” the motley protagonists of Western
music, all these notions mask a particular way of thinking – one
which is often used as a pretext to argue in favour of the ethical superiority
of one group of human beings over another.
Because we reject all such notions, we have created this space: a platform from which we intend to speak out against certain, specific situations and comment on assertions that particularly deserve to be challenged. We do so in the hope that this tiny grain of sand will help to build a better world. Here as never before, Musikeon is the realization of a dream. A dream that we hope to share. Last article |
